Mashrafe, Shakib to return in Nov: Papon

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s will ban from international cricket will be over after 23 days. Then the world’s best all-rounder will be able to return to the field soon.

Shakib will be back in action with the upcoming Corporate T20 League. Former skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza will return to the field with the same tournament.

This was stated by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon in response to a question from reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday. He added that the Corporate T20 League will be held in mid-November.

Shortly after the tour of Sri Lanka was postponed, the BCB announced that an ODI series would be organized with three teams, starting from October 11. The Corporate T20 League will be played at the end of this series.

“We’ve formed three teams for the tournament on October 11 and the conditions we’ve set is that every player from each team must play at least two matches,” said BCB president Nazmul Hassan on Tuesday.

“We feel the teams will be very balanced. We’re looking to televise the final of the tournament and before that all the matches will be available on Live stream and on radio,” Papon added.

The BCB president also confirmed that Mashrafe will play in the corporate league on Tuesday. Regarding Mashrafe’s return and him not playing in the upcoming three-team series, the BCB president said, “Mashrafe was infected with corona. He still could not overcome from the stress of being infected with this deadly virus. That is why Mashrafe himself is not willing to play in this tournament. So it is not true that he was not selected to play in this tourney. However, Mashrafe will definitely be there in the next available tournament.”

Earlier, Shakib had the possibility to play in the tour of Sri Lanka. To this end, the former skipper returned to the country from the United States and started practicing alone in BKSP. However, in the end, the BCB cancelled the tour as it did not agree with the rules of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. As a result, Shakib has returned to the United States. Now he can return in action with the corporate league in November. The country’s cricket fans are waiting to see him again at 22 yards and finally it is going to happen.

Meanwhile, former captain Mashrafe is not being included in the three-team series as he is not fit to play now, said national team chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu.

The most successful captain in the history of country’s cricket relinquished the ODI captaincy with a series against Zimbabwe last March. He has not been seen in competitive cricket since then. Although he left the leadership, Mashrafe did not retire.

Mashrafe is absent even though the national team cricketers are busy with individual and team practice during the corona period.

Because of corona he has been away from cricket for a long time. He will end the long break with the upcoming corporate league. But before that, both Mashrafe and Shakib have to follow the health guidelines, the BCB chief said.
