Journalist Golam Rasul Mallick passes away

President Iajuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of Golam Rasul Mallick.

Veteran journalist and chief editor of Eastern News Agency (ENA) Golam Rasul Mallick died at Apollo Hospital in the city early yesterday. He was 68.
Golam Rasul was admitted to the hospital on Friday night following brain haemorrhage. He breathed his last at 12:15am, family sources said.He left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
Namaj-e-Janaza of Rasul was held at National Press Club after Zohr prayers. Another janaza was held at Pilkhana in the city before his burial at Azimpur new graveyard. Golam Rasul founded ENA, the first private news agency in erstwhile East Pakistan, in 1969.In his long journalistic career, Rasul worked in different dailies and news agencies since 1959. Before establishing ENA, he was the chief reporter of Pakistan Press International (PPI).

Recalling his colourful life, the president said the country has lost a dedicated journalist at the death of Mallick. He prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.

The Prime Minister, in her condolence message, recalled the contribution of Golam Rasul Mallick in the field of journalism. She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family.
In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said, “The death of Golam Rasul Mallick is an irreparable loss to the arena of journalism.” She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), in a joint statement yesterday, condoled the death of Golam Rasul Mallick.
