Anti-rape long march reaches Feni – National – observerbd.com
The Anti-rape long march with around 400 demonstrators, started on Friday from Dhaka towards Noakhali, reached Feni district on Saturday morning. Leftist student groups organised the long march under the banner of “Dhorshon O Bicharhinotar Biruddhe Bangladesh” (Bangladesh against rape and impunity) to press home their nine-point demands. The nine-point demands include ensuring exemplary punishment of the perpetrators involved in rape and violence against women, resignation of the Home Minister and implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) charter. After reaching Feni, the protesters held a rally at the district Shaheed Minar. Among other, Bangladesh Chhatra Union president Mehedi Hasan, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front president Masud Rana, and Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra president Sima Dutt, spoke. The march with around 400 activists began from Shahbag around 10:30am on Friday and arrived at Gulistan with a procession. Later, the march departed from there by buses. The march also held several road rallies on the way to Noakhali. The long march will be ended by holding a rally at Maijdee Court area in Noakhali district town in the afternoon. ATB/MUS/TF |
