Christians celebrate Christmas Day

Members of Christian faith are celebrating Christmas Day in the country on Friday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ amid great enthusiasm and festivity.
Special prayers were arranged at all churches across the country in the morning seeking reprieve from the global coronavirus pandemic.
In Dhaka city, a prayer was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Kakrail area at about 8.30am maintaining health guide lines. Every year authorities of the church arrange several prayers but this year it is limited to one due to the spread of coronavirus.
Father Bimal Francis Gomez, priest of St. Mary’s Cathedral Church, said they held prayer seeking the blessing for every human being.
Churches wear a festive look for Christmas celebrations. Decoration of Christmas trees with colourful lights, special prayers, distribution of gifts among children, and exchange of pleasantries are the main features of the day’s festivities.
Due to the pandemic COVID-19, the day is celebrating in a limited scale maintaining health rules, including maintaining social distancing and wearing masks everywhere.
The day is a public holiday.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader in the Jatiya Sangsad Begum Rowshan Ershad, in separate messages, greeted members of the Christian community on the occasion.
They called upon the members of the Christians community to celebrate the holy day maintaining the health rules due to the outbreak of the second spell of the fatal disease Coronavirus that struck many world countries including Bangladesh.
