Members of Rapid Action Battalion detained six people with snake venom worth Tk 75 crore from Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan area early Friday.
The detained were identified as Md. Masud Rana, 24, Md. Safir Uddin Shanu, 50, Md. Tamjidul Islam, 34, Md. Alamgir Hossain, 26, Firoza Begum, 57, and Asma Begum, 42.
RAB-2 said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in the area at about 3.20am and detained them.
Later, they seized 8.96 kg snake venom after searching a bag.
During initial interrogation, the detained people confessed that they are members of international smuggling gang. They collect venom from different parts of the world.
Legal steps in this regard is underway, said RAB.
