Coronavirus: 15,558 infected, 14,661 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 13, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,558 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,661 recovered in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining consistently in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,558 as 25 new patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Thursday with the daily infection rate of 6.65 percent.

“The daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last three weeks in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 3.49 percent on Monday, 7.79 percent on Sunday, 5.20 percent on Saturday, 8.16 percent on Friday, 6.81 percent on Thursday and 7.10 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 98,595 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 15,558 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.78 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,661 with the healing of 22 more infected people on Tuesday with an average recovery rate of 94.23 percent in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently about 5.97 times higher than the average infection rate,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,558 patients stands at 3,963 in Rangpur, 779 in Panchagarh, 1,316 in Nilphamari, 959 in Lalmonirhat, 1,002 in Kurigram, 1,497 in Thakurgaon, 4,595 in Dinajpur and 1,447 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the 14,661 recovered patients include 3,533 of Rangpur, 741 of Panchagarh, 1,284 of Nilphamari, 941 of Lalmonirhat, 953 of Kurigram, 1,403 of Thakurgaon, 4,398 of Dinajpur and 1,408 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 300 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the 300 fatalities stands at 70 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,558 COVID-19 infected patients, 28 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,661 patients and 300 deaths while 569 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,066 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 90,465 released and 3,601 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu suggested people to sincerely abide by the health directives to prevent spread of the deadly virus.
