Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital: Newly-appointed acting director issued show-cause

The health ministry has issued a show-cause notice to the newly appointed acting director of the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Dr KM Mamun Morshed for “criticising the transfer order” of former director Dr Uttam Kumar Barua.

Dr KM Morshed was the deputy director of the hospital and was appointed in place of Dr Uttam Kumar, who was removed on Tuesday due to a financial scam in procuring medical equipment.

According to the show-cause notice, Dr KM Morshed had arranged a “views-exchange meeting against the transfer order” where doctors, nurses and other staffers attended.

“In that meeting, the government order [of the transfer] was criticised, which is against the government employee code of conduct rules 1979 and a punishable offence…,” the notice read.

Dr Morshed has been asked to reply to why divisional measure will not be taken against him within three working days.
