Chattogram records 114 new COVID-19 patients, raising cases to 29,618

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 26, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases reached 22883 as 114 new patients were diagnosed with the viral disease in the last 24-hour till this morning in the district.

Civil surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS that among the total 29,618 coronavirus infected persons, 22883 are the residents of the port city and the rest 6,775 are from different upazilas of the district.

A total of 28,608 patients have so far recovered from Covid-19 and the percentage of recovery rate stands at 96.64 in the district, he said.

The recovered patients were discharged from different home isolations and Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals as two consecutives real- time PCR tests found them virus negative, he said.

A total of 114 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours after testing 1,345 samples at eight COVID-19 laboratories in the district.

The infection rate is 8.47 percent.

Among the newly detected patients, 89 are from Chattogram city and 25 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

Dr Rabbi said that the death toll from the virus rose to 354 with three fatalities reported afresh in the last 24 hours.

Among the fatalities, 253 were the residents of the port city and the rest 101 were of different upazilas.

The health official mentioned that the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

Besides, 1,318 patients are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals in the port city.
