Govt to allocate Tk1,000cr fund to develop film industry | The Asian Age Online, Bangladesh

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday announced that the government has decided to allocate Tk 1,000 crore fund for the development of the film industry.
The government has decided to utilise the fund by opening up the closed cinema halls, renovating the old ones and introducing new movie theatres for the movie goers.The minister said, “Government has decided to allocate Tk 1,000 crore loan fund from Bangladesh Bank instead of Tk 700 crore.”
Earlier, the government allocated around Tk 700 crore to save the film industry and cinema halls.The decision has been taken as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s instruction of providing long-term loan with low interest rate to facilitate the reopening.”People will be able to see significant changes in the film industry within a few years. Besides, a large number of cinema halls will also be opened in rural areas, “Hasan Mahmud added.
Regarding the opening of cinema halls, the information minister informed that the decision will be taken within next week after considering the current pandemic situation.Earlier, it was reported that cinema halls will be opened on October 16.
