‘Shakib will shine from start’

For a long 408 days, he did not play any cricket match and started to practice with the bowl and the bat only a few days ago. No matter how big a star Shakib Al Hasan is, the question of inertia comes up due to such a long break.

However, Mahmudullah does not see any such fear. According to the skipper of Gemcon Khulna team, everyone will witness the performance of old Shakib from the very first day of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Shakib will end his long wait to return to cricket field with Bangabandhu T20 Cup on Tuesday. Shakib-Mahmudullah’s Gemcon Khulna will play against Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the evening.

Shakib was quite lively in practice on Monday. After training at the academy ground, captain Mahmudullah said Shakib talent will let him flourish right from the go. “I always believe one thing – Shakib’s talent, his ability, I don’t think there will be any question about his performance. I believe his performance will be top notch from the very start. I think he is very excited to play, and he is looking forward to playing well.”

“We are very happy (about Shakib’s return). Be it international or domestic. It’s really great to have him back.”

Meanwhile, Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal was however not looking to give his national teammate an inch upon his return to action. “I’m certain his fans will be eager to see him. However, as it’s a game for me, I will try to ensure he has as little impact as possible on the match (today).

Tamim however had no doubt that Shakib will become increasingly successful as he starts getting play time. “At the end of the day, I am happy he is returning. I am sure he will go from strength to strength from the very first match.”
