Ashraful looking for a fresh start

Mohammad Ashraful has been away from the mainstream of Bangladesh cricket since he was banned due to fixing scandal. Despite overcoming the ban, he played regular domestic cricket but could not make an impression there. However, the former captain is hoping for something different this time. He believes his fitness and skill level is much better than before.

Ashraful arrived at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday to take a fitness test ahead of the Bangabandhu T20 tournament.

In the beep test, he has crossed the minimum bench mark of 11 and scored 11.4.  Now, he is very confident about getting a team in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup and playing well. “I am very confident. The way I am thinking at the moment is that I want to begin anew in terms of fitness and skill. I didn’t think in the last eight or nine months that I will reach the level I have reached in terms of fitness and skill,” said Ashraful.

He is currently 36 years old. The veteran said that he is working hard to compete with the young players in terms of fitness. “I am undergoing fitness training with U-23 players and trying to match their levels of fitness, that’s what I have been trying for the past eight or nine months, he added.
