Ulama League demands to expose Bangabandhu’s sculpture vandals’ to justice

DHAKA, Dec 06, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Awami Ulama League urged the government to identify those involved in the vandalism of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s unfinished sculpture in Kushtia and bring them under law ensuring exemplary punishment.

In a statement today, Mufti Masum Billah Nafi, member secretary of the organisation’s national conference preparatory convening committee, said, “The audacity of the communal extremists is on the rise. It is high time to put an end to this”.

The anti-liberation force and extremists mislead the people by misinterpreting the holy Qur’an and Hadith through fatwas, the release quoted Mufti Nafi as saying.

He said the ultra-communal forces capitalize on the religious sentiments and beliefs of the Muslim community by posing themselves as scholars which is an extremely abominable and shameful.

The party attributed the heinous act of vandalism to an extreme blow to the non-communal spirit of the liberation war.

It strongly condemned and protested the vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture, demanding the government to take immediate legal action against this unimaginable arrogance and ensure exemplary punishment of the culprits, the release added.

“If you want to live in a non-communal Bangladesh achieved by liberation war, you must adhere to the Bengali culture and spirit,” the release also said.

Ulama League will give befitting reply to any act against development of the country through creating a volatile environment by delivering provoking verbal speeches and fatwa, it continued.

The statement was signed by the spokesperson of the organization Qari Maulana Asaduzzaman, its joint convener Hafeez Maulana Anwar Hossain Jewel, Mufti Alim Vijay Nagri, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Ashrafi, Kazi Maulana Abu Musa Bhuiyan, Maulana Abdul Qudus, Mufti Ilyas Hossain, Mufti Abdur Rahim Chatgami and Sufi Abdul Karim.
