Quader hopes Biden to play role in establishing humanitarian world

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday expressed his optimism that US President-elect Joe Biden will play an important role in building a humanitarian and sympathetic world side by side with establishing world peace.

“People to people and government to government relations between the US and Bangladesh will reach a newer height,” he told a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence on parliament premises here.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, hoped a new horizon will be opened up to work in unison on different issues including Rohingya repatriation, climate change and elimination of terrorism.

Bangladesh as a developing nation will get priority to the Joe Biden government in regional issues, financial relations and migration as like as it got in the previous time, he hoped.

On behalf of Bangladesh Awami League, Quader extended congratulations to newly elected President and Vice-President of the United States.

Pointing to BNP, the AL general secretary said his party does not believe in ‘minus’ or ‘plus’ formula and that is why it suspended BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s punishment for six more months showing generosity and political liberalism.

BNP’s political culture is to hatch conspiracy against common people and make falsehood and search for alleyways to grasp state power in undemocratic way, he added.

Mentioning that the government wants strong opposition, the minister said Awami League did not come to power using gun barrel rather it attained people’s mandate to form the government by winning the hearts of people and waging movements and enduring imprisonment and repression.

Awami League believes in tolerance, so it does not want to eliminate anyone or any party, he said.
