Awami League nominated candidate Mohammad Habib Hasan has been elected unofficially in the by-election of Dhaka-18 constituency on Thursday. Contesting with the ‘Boat’ symbol, he bagged 75,820 votes, while his nearest rival SM Jahangir Hossain of BNP got 5,369 votes only competing with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. GM Mahtab Uddin, Returing Officer and Regional Election official of Dhaka, announced the results on Thursday night. A total of six candidates contested in the by-election. Jatiya Party’s Md Nasir Uddin Sarker received 325 votes contesting with ‘Plough’ symbol, while Gana Front’s Kazi Md Shahidullah bagged 126 votes contesting with ‘Fish’ symbol. Md Omar Faruque of Bangladesh Congress received 91 votes with ‘Coconut’ symbol, while Md Mohib Ullah Bahar of Progotishil Ganatntrik Dal (PDP) bagged 87 ballots with ‘Tiger’ symbol. SZA |
