MOULVIBAZAR, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS) – Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin has said the present government is always beside the people.
“At the initiatives of the present government under the dynamic leadership of PM Sheikh Hasina, destitute and poor people have been helped with food and necessary items regularly throughout the pandemic,” he said at a DO (clearance) distributing function for relief at Baralekha Upazila Puja pandals here, said a press release today.
“Due to the pandemic situation, the world is in turmoil. The relief distribution has helped our people a lot to cope with the situation,” Shahab added.
The minister called upon the organizers to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja in compliance with the health rules during the global epidemic.
The DO (clearance) of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry for 84,500 mt of GR rice will be distributed in 129 public puja pandals of Baralekha Upazila, to distribute 500 kg rice at each pandal, said the release.
The minister distributed packets of 17 kg dry food consisting of rice, pulse, salt, sugar, noodles and soybean oil among 200 helpless and poor families.
He also unveiled the foundation stone of ‘Pakshail Adarsh High School Flood Shelter’ with a capacity of 12,788 square feet and a capacity of providing shelter to 400 people and 100 heads of cattle during floods. The school cum shelter center will be constructed at a cost of more than Taka 3.48 crore with the ministry funding.
The meeting was chaired by Baralekha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamim Al Imran.
Among others, Upazila Parishad Chairman Shoaib Ahmed, Baralekha Municipality Mayor Abul Imam Md Kamran Chowdhury, Upazila Vice Chairman Tajuddin, former Upazila Chairman and Baralekha Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary Rafiqul Islam Sundar, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Ubaid Ullah Khan and Bidhan Chandra Das, president of Baralekha Puja Celebration Parishad were present.
