Erfan Salim, son of MP Haji Salim, is going to be sacked from the post of councillor after was jailed by a mobile court on Monday night. “He will be terminated on completion of a full investigation,” Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam told journalists at his Secretariat office on Tuesday. He also said that a gazette notification in this regard will also be published today. Earlier, the local government division under the ministry, informed that action will be taken against Erfan Salim once a report about his conviction was received from the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Erfan Salim is the councillor of ward 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation. Helaluddin Ahmed, senior secretary of the division, added that the Local Government City Corporation Act states that if a person is convicted by any court, he will be dismissed from his post. RAB detained Erfan from his father’s residence at Swarighat in city’s old part on Monday night following a case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station by Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy for assaulting him. A RAB’s mobile court sentenced him and his bodyguard Zahid to one year in jail in two separate cases–one under the Arms Act and another under Narcotics Control Act. Earlier, the mobile court in a raid seized two firearms, 38 walkie-talkies and liquor from the house. LY |
