COVID-19 cases cross 13,200 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 11, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 13,200 mark despite continuation of a declining trend in the infection rate during the last three months in Rangpur division.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 13,209 with 49 more infections reported on Tuesday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 49 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 315 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of the division on Tuesday at the daily infection rate of 15.55 percent.

“The district-wise break up of the 13,209 patients stands at 3,188 in Rangpur, 703 in Panchagarh, 1,172 in Nilphamari, 906 in Lalmonirhat, 945 in Kurigram, 1,274 in Thakurgaon, 3,778 in Dinajpur and 1,243 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 80,618 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday, and of them, 13,209 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 16.38 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,228 with the recovery of 29 more infected people in the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.57 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is presently 5.65 times higher than the infection rate.

The 12,228 recovered patients include 2,085 of Rangpur, 651 of Panchagarh, 1,139 of Nilphamari, 883 of Lalmonirhat, 893 of Kurigram, 1,096 of Thakurgaon, 3,572 of Dinajpur and 1,189 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 239 in the division where no more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 239 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 86 in Dinajpur, 26 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.81 percent in the division.

“Among the total 13,209 COVID-19 patients of the division, 65 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,228 patients and 239 deaths while 677 remaining in home isolations,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Acting Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Acting Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof Dr. Mahfuzer Rahman said the infection rate continued declining amid rising recovery rate in the recent months in the division.

He called upon the common people for abiding by the health directives of the government in maintaining the declining trend in infection rate to further reduce COVID-19 spreading in the division during the winter season.
