Blank fire after vandalism at Bangabandhu statue in Kushtia



A man shot blank fires from his gun in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s under construction statue at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia town on Saturday evening.

Kushtia Police Lines sub-inspector Moksedur Rahman, who was on duty during the incident, said that a Noha car came in front of the under construction statue at about 7.30 and a man inside the car made blank fires.

“There was no number plate in the car. The man leaved the intersection soon after the firing. We informed the matter high-ups instantly,” he added.

Witnesses said a numberless Noha car reached in front of the sculpture at bout 7.30pm and mad two rounds of visit there.

A man shot blank fires after opening glass of the car and moved towards Majampur area soon after that, they added.

Additional police have been deployed in the area after the incident.

Kushtia Model Police Station OC Abul Kalam said they are investigating the matter.

Earlier, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s under construction statues at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia town were vandalised by miscreants sometime on Friday night.
