Bangladesh Mahila Parishad president Ayesha Khanam no more



Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and a freedom fighter, passed away  at a hospital in the capital early hours of Saturday. She was 74.

She had been suffering from cancer for a long time. She was admitted to BRB Hospital early today after fell sick at home, the organisation’s general secretary Maleka Banu confirmed.

Ayesha Khanam’s body was taken to the central office of the Mahila Parishad around 8:30 am for people to pay their last respects.

She will be buried at her family graveyard in Netrakona district.

Ayesha was born at village Gabragati in Netrokona on October 18, 1947.

A former vice president of Chhatra Union, Ayesha played a prominent role as an organiser of some of the country’s most significant historical events, including the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising of 1969 and the Liberation War of 1971.
