AL observes ‘Victory Day for Democracy’ today

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2020(BSS) – Awami League observed Victory Day for Democracy today across the country marking the second anniversary of party’s victory in the 11th parliamentary election on December 30.

The 11th parliamentary election was a milestone in the country’s history of democracy and development as Bangladesh marched towards new journey of democracy overcoming darkness of violent politics and domination of evil forces and patrons of terrorists, militants and corrupt people through the elections, said a press release of AL.

Marking the day, the party took programmes including a discussion at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office at 3pm, said a press release.

AL’s district, city, town, upazila and thana units also arranged identical programmes.

Under the initiative of Dhaka City North unit of AL, a discussion was held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium at 11am.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader attended it as the chief guest.

Party’s Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam joined it as the special guests.

Dhaka City South unit of AL arranged another discussion at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue at 3pm.

AL Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury attended it as the chief guest while Presidium Member Abdur Rahman, AL Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni joined it as the special guests.

AL central leaders also joined it.

After the massive victory in the 11th parliamentary election on December 30, 2018, Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League President and elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, formed the government for the third consecutive term.

She took oath as the prime minister for fourth term with 47-member council of ministers on January 7, 2019.

In the 2018 general elections, the people of Bangladesh gave their verdicts in favour of pro-liberation force Awami League by casting their votes for ‘Boat’ for keeping continuity of the country’s development and progress, said the press release.

The people directly rejected the anti-liberation forces, killers of August 15, perpetrators of jail killings and August 21 grenade attacks and communal evil forces.

In continuation of traditional politics of conspiracy, BNP carried out propaganda centering the polls to mislead the people and halt the country’s democratic practice.

The BNP-Jamaat evil alliance launched arson attacks and created an anarchic situation before and after the 10th parliamentary elections held on January 5, 2014 to thwart the continuation of democracy. Many people were killed in the arson attacks carried out by BNP-Jamaat.

A huge number of people, who received burn injuries in the attacks, are still suffering untold sufferings.

The Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to establish and safeguard the people’s democratic rights and build a society with the spirit of the great liberation war and democratic values.

Meanwhile, the Awami Swechchhasebak League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League (AL), organized a discussion meeting at the Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium in the capital on the occasion of the Victory Day for Democracy.

President of the organization Nirmal Ranjan Guha presided over the meeting and Awami League presidium member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak addressed the meeting as the chief guest.

Awami League’s Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Awami Swechchhasebak League General Secretary Afzalur Rahman Babu also spoke.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Victory Day for Democracy, the Awami Jubo League held a rally in front of the central office of the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Juba League presidium member Habibur Rahman Pawan presided over the rally while Awami Jubo League general secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil addressed the gathering.

At the end of the rally, a procession came out and circled the various streets of the city.

Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Krishak League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League (AL), took out a joyous procession.

The procession started from the front of the Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue and visited Gulistan, GPO and surrounding areas.

Krishak League President Sameer Chanda, General Secretary Umme Kulsum Smriti, Vice President Sakhawat Hossain and several leaders were present.
