Dithi Khatun, a third-gender, has unofficially been elected councillor in the reserved women ward councillor post in Kalaroa municipal elections in Satkhira district. Dithi Khatun contested the election with ‘Ring’ symbol for the reserved seat for women in ward No. 7, 8 and 9, and obtained 2,079 votes while her nearest rival Hasina Akter of ‘Jaba flower’ symbol got 1,183. Earlier on December 30, 2015, she lost the election by only 11 votes. Dithi Khatun is eying to come into the mainstream of society by public representation. JA/ALM |
