Sister-in-law commits suicide after brother-in-law tries to rape her A father-in-law has been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a case for allegedly instigating his daughter-in-law to commit suicide at Bahubal upazila in Habiganj district.
The father-in-law Harun-ar-Rashid was arrested early Thursday from village Bhugli under Bahubal upazila by police after the case was filed with Bahubal Model Police Station for allegedly instigating his daughter-in-law Tania Akter to commit suicide. Tania was Harun-ar-Rashid’s eldest son who works in Saudi Arabia. It was learnt that Harun-ar-Rashid’s Saudi expatriate son Shah Alam married Tania Akter, daughter of Saudi expatriate Nurul Islam of village Mirzatuli under Bahubal upazila about three years ago. After the marriage, Tania gave birth to a baby boy, who is now 22 months’ old. Tania was happy with her conjugal life. But, Tania’s brother-in-law Jane Alam got attracted to her. He often used to tease his elder brother’s wife. Tania informed her father-in-law and mother-in-law about the matter, but they did not pay any heed to her complaints. At one stage, she informed Jane Alam’s wife about the matter which led to quarrels between him and his wife. Jane Alam’s wife repeatedly warned her husband against teasing Tania. But, Jane Alam didn’t pay any heed to the warnings. At one stage, the wife left Jane Alam. The matter had spread to entire village. Being furious, Jane Alam decided to take revenge on Tania. He entered Tania’s bedroom after Sunday midnight breaking the door lock and tried to rape her. At that time, Tania tried to commit suicide swallowing poison. Afterward, Jane Alam called Tania’s younger brother Tanvir on his mobile phone. He told him to bring an autorickshaw as his wife fell sick. Instantly, Tanvir took an autorickshaw to Jane Alam’s house and found that his sister, instead of Jane Alam’s wife, was lying unconscious on her bed unconscious. Later, Tania was rushed to Habiganj Hospital where the relatives of her husband told doctors that she had drank poison. As Tania’s condition was deteriorated, her family was trying to shift her to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. But, Tania died on her way to Sylhet on Monday morning. The grief-stricken Tania’s mother Runa Akter later filed a case with Bahubal Police Station naming five persons including Jane Alam as the principal accused for instigating her daughter to commit suicide. Other accused were Tania’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, and two sister-in-laws, said Bahubal Model Police Station’s OC Mohammad Kamruzzaman. Later, Harun-ar-Rashid was arrested from a house at village Bhugli, said RAB’s Srimongol Camp’s SI Monir. SZA |
