Madrasa boy rescued in Pabna after chained and tortured

A madrasa boy has allegedly been tortured by his teacher with chaining him from waist to legs.

The incident occurred at Kadimpara Bura Dewan Nurani Hafizia Madrasa at Sahapur union in Ishwardi  upazila of Pabna district.

Police with the help of locals and family members rescued the boy on Friday night.

Victim Md Mobarak Hossain, 11, is the son of Nazrul Islam, a resident of Chandbha union at Atghoria upazila in the district.

Police, however, detained the principle of the madrasa Abdul Momin and teacher Piarul Islam for questioning, said Iswardi Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Nasir Uddin.

According to the victim, he fled to his aunt’s house from madrasa following teacher’s torture.

He was sent back to madrasa again on Wednesday by family.

The same day, teacher Piarul Islam chained him, tortured him, and, even, he forced the boy to lick spit from the ground seven times, according to Mobarak.

Principle Abdul Momin was aware of the matter, but he did not take any action against Piarul.

As the chained boy tried to flee again on Friday, locals rescued him and informed madrasa authority as well as police.

Police, later, rescued the boy from madrasa at night.

Contacted, Piarul said he did not want to chain Mubarak, rather Mubarak’s uncle Sabbir, one senior student of the madrasa, chained him.

Sabbir said he and teacher Piarul chained Mubarak together.

No case was filed in this connection till 2:00pm on Saturday, reports our correspondent.
