Slain former UP member Aminul Islam Gazi was an inhabitant of village Naoapara in Lalua union under Kolapara upazila.
SP Moinul Hasan said a vast land property of slain Dilip was acquired by the government for the development of Paira Port. Nearly one crore of taka of the acquisitioned land was deposited to the bank account of Dilip. Knowing about it, father-in-law Anwar indulged in a cospiracy to embezzle the money. Failing to take the money in a fraudulent way, he proposed the husband of his niece Nizam to kill his son-in-law. Receiving the proposal, Nizam later contacted with Amzad of village Heuliabunia under barguna district and hired him at Tk 2 lakh.
Nizam mainly got acquainted with Amzad in Barguna Jail in connection with a dacoity case of Amtali Police Station. Dilip’s father-in-law hatched the plan with Nizam to kill his son-in-law about three months before the murder.
According to the plan, Anwar finalised the killing of Dilip consulting with the killers at Barguna-Amtali ferryghat two months before. He also paid Nizam Tk 1.60 lakh, out of Tk 2 lakh at different times. Nizam and Amzad shared the amount between themselves.
Under primary investigation of police, the arresed persons said Dilip was an expatriate in Qatar. Apart from earning money by staying abroad, he also inherited huge property from his father. But, Dilip was a miser and reluctant to pay the expenses of his wife and children. One of his daughters was mentally sick but Dilip also careless about her treatment.
“A family feud ensued due to Dilip’s reluctance to meet the basic necessities of his family. Dilip’s wife and children have long been staying at Anwar’s home. According to the plan, Nizam and Amzad went Dilip’s house as guests at Lalua’s Noapara under Kolapara upazila on October 21,” police said.
Before that the killers sought the rest of the amount from Anwar. Accordingly, Anwar paid them Tk 10,000 from a Bikash shop first and then Tk 20,000 after the murder.
Nizam was the brother-in-law of Dilip. Using the relationship, he and Amzad got into his house. Before the murder, they mixed sleeping pills with Seven Up and offered Dilip to drink it. As Dilip fell in deep sleep drinking the Seven-Up, the killers then strangled him and left the place.
Father-in-law Anwar said his son-in-law’s bank account nominee was his sick daughter. He had a plan to embezzle the money influencing his daughter and daughter-in-law in absence of Dilip.
Slain Dilip’s wife and Anwar’s daughter Habiba Begum later filed a murder case with the police station concerned against her father.
