Shahid Kapoor announced on Sunday that his sports film ‘Jersey’ will be hitting theatres this Diwali.
Talking to his social media, Shahid shared, “JERSEY releasing in theatres this DIWALI at 5th November 2021. The triumph of the human spirit. A journey I am so very proud of. This one’s for the TEAM”. ‘Jersey’ features Shahid in a lead role opposite Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur. The film that is directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, is a remake of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Telugu film by the same name.
“Diwali is the biggest family festival in the India, and is the perfect time to bring ‘Jersey,’ a family sports drama to audiences, a time when all families can come together to celebrate this journey,” producer Aman Gill said in a statement. The team wrapped up work on the shoot in December last year. Shahid bid goodbye to the cricket pitch and his character in a lengthy social media post that read, “It’s a film wrap on #jersey 47 days of shoot during covid. Just unbelievable. I am so proud of the entire team. It’s nothing short of a miracle. I want to thank each and everyone from the unit for coming to set every day, putting themselves at risk and doing what we all love doing.

Telling stories that touch hearts and make a difference.” He went on to add, “Jersey is a story that speaks of a Phoenix rising from the ashes. The triumph of an indomitable spirit. If there was ever a time I could connect with the underlying spirit of a film this was it. As we all fight through this pandemic. Let’s always remember. This shall pass too. Here’s to my best filmmaking experience yet. Here’s to Jersey … we shall overcome !!!!”
