Bangabandhu International University does not exist in Saidpur and is not approved by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, said Professor Biswajit Chand, in-charge of the private university division of University Grants Commission (UGC).

He said the UGC has not received any proposal regarding Bangabandhu International University. The UGC has sought assistance from the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities to stop all illegal activities of the university. UGC will issue a public notice in this regard shortly, he added.

Entrepreneur and Founder Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of the university Prof ABM Sharifuzzaman Shah recently published a recruitment circular in a national daily, seeking candidates for the posts of pro-vice-chancellor and faculty members.

Ms. Rabeya Alim MP of Saidpur (Seat-323) has been shown as the founding president of the university’s Board of Trustees.

Following the recruitment circular, the UGC has cautioned students, teachers, parents, and job seekers about the university. Interested individuals may check the list of approved universities and courses published on the UGC website.

According to the Private University Act-2010, president appoints VCs, Pro-VCs, and Treasurers in each private university for a four-year term.

So, the appointment of anyone to these posts(by authorities of Bangabandhu International University) will be in direct violation of the law.

Additionally, certificates issued for courses of any private university without a vice-chancellor will be considered invalid.
