Three teams want Mashrafe

The three participating teams have competed to field Mashrafe bin Mortaza in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Gemcon Khulna has shown interest in ‘Narail Express’.

On the other hand, Fortune Barisal has also expressed interest in taking Mashrafe to the team. There are rumours that Beximco Dhaka has also shown interest in the 37-year-old fast bowler.

Gamcon Khulna manager Nafis Iqbal told reporters in Mirpur on Thursday that he was interested in Mashrafe. He said that Khulna wants to take Mashirafi in the team. They have officially informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Nafis Iqbal said, ‘Mashrafe is such a name, such a player, anyone would want to take him in the team. We have also shown interest in him. However, we have to see here, what is the probability of getting Mashrafe, what is his condition, what is the condition of his fitness. And secondly, the board had a policy on how Mashrafe would be included in the team. Because his name was not in the draft. The board will decide what the policy of the board will be if more than one party shows interest. We have expressed our interest. The rest is up to the board. ‘

According to BCC sources, Fortune Barisal wants to take him in the team. Mashrafe was also seen with Beximco Dhaka’s trainer Bayazidul Islam at the City Club ground in Mirpur.

If more than one team shows interest, then lottery will determine which team Mashrafe will play for. A member of Bangabandhu T20 Cup’s technical committee said that they will put him into lottery as two teams are ready to have him in their squad.

‘’If more than one team is interested in him we will put him in lottery because there should be a level playing field for all the sides. First he (Mashrafe) has to inform us that he is fit to play and later we will decide our next course of action,’’ said the member.

BCB initially did not include Mashrafe’s name in the draft list as a result of his knee injury but the BCB had said that Mashrafe would be able to play directly in any team if he recovered from the injury. Mashrafe earlier did not participate in the BCB President’s Cup after testing positive for corona.
