Three more police officials have been suspended in connection with torture and death of Raihan Ahmed at Bandar Bazar Police Outpost under Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP). The officials who have recently been suspended are Inspector (OC-Investigation) Soumen Moitra, who has recently been transferred from Kotwali Police Station, Sub-Inspector Abdul Baten, first Investigation Officer of the case, and ASI Kutub Ali. With them, a total of nine police personnel have so far been suspended in Raihan murder case. SMP’s additional deputy commissioner (Media) BM Ashraf Ullah said they have been suspended from the Police Headquarters in Dhaka recently. There are allegations that they showed negligence in investigation and assisted SI Akbar to flee the country. At night on October 11 last, Raihan Ahmed, son of Rafiqul Islam of Neharipara of Sylhet city, was picked and brought at Bandar Bazar Police Outpost where he was tortured to death. On the following day, the SMP suspended four police personnel including the police outpost in-charge SI Akbar, and withdrew three others. Later, the SMP suspended two more police personnel. Subsequently, three police officials have been suspended on the basis of the inquiry report by the proibe committee formed by the Police Headquarters in Dhaka. SZA |
