SC scraps bail pleas of 2 August 21 grenade attack case convicts

DHAKA, Dec 6, 2020 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today scrapped pleas for bail of former DIG Khan Sayeed Hasan and deputy commissioner Obaidur Rahman Khan, convicted in August 21 grenade attack case.

“Dismissed,” said the order passed by a four-member apex court virtual bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

The two former senior cops were tried in absentia and were sentenced to two-year imprisonment and fined Taka 50 thousand each by a special tribunal for their involvement in the plotting of the attack that took place on August 21, 2004.

They surrendered on January 28 and filed an application with the High Court for bail. The High Court eventually on March 9, 2020, scrapped their bail pleas, making them to move to the Appellate Division.
