Recommendations on draft Sylhet Development Authority Law sought

DHAKA, Nov 17, 2020 (BSS) – Recommendations were sought within next
10 days on the draft Sylhet development authority law in a bid to
proper expansion of the largest urban hub of northeastern Bangladesh.

The request was made at a view exchange meeting on “Draft Sylhet
Development Authority Law 2020” with the leaders of Sylhet zone
including foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, who is also a lawmaker
of Sylhet, held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital today.

During the meeting, Dr Momen expressed his hope that the draft act
would be enacted as a law during the ongoing Mujib Barsha, marking the
birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.

He said initiative has already been taken to expand areas of Sylhet
city while the proposed law will help to realize the desired planned
development to turn the city into a modern one along with an exciting
tourist destination.

Highlighting the necessity of such development authority law, the
foreign minister urged all to cooperate to expedite the process of
enacting the law.

State minister for housing and public works Sharif Ahmed presided
over the meeting while housing and public works secretary M Shaheed
Ullah Khandokar gave the welcome speech.

Former education minister M Nurul Islam Nahid, lawmaker Mahmud-Us
Samad Kayes, former organizing secretary of central Awami League (AL)
Mesbah Uddin Siraj, Sylhet Mohanagar AL president Masuk Uddin and
former general secretary Asad Uddin, former general secretary of
Sylhet district AL Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Sylhet Chamber president
Abu Taher M Shoeb and Sylhet Women chamber president Sarna Lota Roy,
among others, spoke on the occasion.
