Rapists rehabilitated by repealing law after Bangabandhu’s assassination: Khalid
DHAKA, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said the rapists were rehabilitated by repealing “The Bangladesh Collaborators (Special Tribunals) Order, 1972″ after Bangabandhu’s assassination.
People, who were involved in rape, looting and arson attacks during the Liberation War,were being tried under “The Bangladesh Collaborators (Special Tribunals) Order, 1972″, but after Bangabandhu’s assassination, the act was withdrawn and the rapists were rehabilitated statewide socially, politically and economically.”
Khalid told reporters after a meeting with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal, at his Secretariat office here.
Mentioning that rapists became ministers during the tenure of BNP and they even tried to control country’s politics and economy, Khaled went on saying, “When the rule of law is trampled underfoot over such kind of cases in a country, people get indulged in criminal activities.”
The rule of law has been established in the country today, he said, adding the rapists, criminals and murderers were tried as the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not spared any kind of criminals during her tenures.
“We have brought everything, including embezzlementof bank money and rape cases, to the public and all the wrongdoers have been brought tothe book and the present government showed zero tolerance in this regard,” he said.
“The law minister has already said the law against rapists is being tightened…he also intended to present it at the next cabinet meeting,” he further added.
