Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate a brand new aircraft Dash 8-400 on Sunday (Dec 27) which has recently been addeed to the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at the VVIP Terminal of Hazrat Shahjahal International Airport in Dhaka through videoconference at 11:00am.
It may be recalled that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina named the aircraft ‘Dhrubatara’ that takes the number of the total fleet of the national flag carrier to 19 including its 6 leased aircraft.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines procured the first, out of three 74-seater narrow-bodied Dash 8-400 aircraft, from Canadian Bombardier Inc. The three aircraft cost US$106 million. The Bomberdier delivered the first Dash 8-400 aircraft in the last week of November, while the rest two Dash 8-400 aircraft will be delivered later on, sources at Biman said.
The new Dash 8-400 aircraft is built by De Havilland, a well-known Canadian aircraft manufacturer.
Equipped with eco-friendly and state-of-the-art facilities, the aircraft has HEPA filter technology that purifies the air inside the aircraft by destroying bacteria, viruses and other germs.
The aircraft will also have more leg space, LED lighting and wide windows.
The national flag carrier has planned to increase its flight frequencies to its domestic and regional destinations after receiving all the three new Bombardier aircraft.
