PM invites more Swiss investment in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today invited Swiss investors to come up with more investment in Bangladesh.

“We have a skilled youth generation and if the investors of Switzerland invest more here, both the countries will be benefited,” she said while Switzerland Ambassador Nathalie Chuard called on the Prime Minister at her official residence Ganabhanan.

Highlighting different investment opportunities and potentialities in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said Switzerland can avail the investment-friendly environment, liberal investment policy, special economic zones and other infrastructures facilities.

Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Jahid Tusher briefed the newsmen.

Mentioning about the government’s initiatives to utilize the country’s manpower, the Premier said “We have huge manpower and the government is working to turn them into human resources through skill development and create employment generation so they are involved properly in the country’s development.”

Echoing the Prime Minister regarding investment, the Swiss Envoy said there are more scopes and investment opportunities here in Bangladesh.

Expressing interest to cooperate Bangladesh in developing human skill, Nathalie Chuard said “They came to know the interest of Bangladesh government in skill development and is ready to extend all-out cooperation to this end.”

The ambassador also showed interest to help Bangladesh in combating Covid-19 and said both the countries would work together to tackle the Coronavirus.

Praising Bangladesh’s progress, Nathalie Chuard said that she is impressed seeing the advancement that is continued even in this crisis (pandemic).

The envoy said she wants to roam Bangladesh in the first chance to witness the country’s beauty which was not possible yet due to Covid-19.

About the Padma multipurpose bridge, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh has been constructing the bridge with its own financing which would contribute to its GDP by establishing direct communication with the country’s southern region.

Meanwhile, the impact of the Padma bridge has become visible in the villages of the southern region as the development works such as the installation of solar panel, infrastructures etc have been begun, she added.

The Swiss Envoy expressed her keenness to help Bangladesh in the social safety net and development of rural people and said both the countries can work together in these fields.

The Premier also highlighted the successes of her government in education, health, residence for all, food and social safety net etc.

The ambassador lauded the government for its works towards building ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Switzerland is ready to offer any type of assistance in implementing ‘Vision-2041’ and ‘Delta Plan-2100’, she added.

She also praised Bangladesh’s measures towards the graduation from least developed countries (LDCs).

Recalling the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s visit to Switzerland in 1972, the Prime Minister said she was also an entourage member in that trip. Bangabandhu had collected doctors and nurses from Switzerland during that visit to provide treatment to war-wounded freedom fighters and violated women, she added.

Mentioning that Swiss foreign policy had attracted Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina said his (Bangabandhu) goal was to make Bangladesh as the Switzerland of the east.

The Prime Minister welcomed the new ambassador and assured to extend all cooperation.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus was present.
