Opposing Bangabandhu’s mural: District Council chairman suspended



Rajshahi District Council chairman Mohammad Ali Sarker has been suspended from the ruling Awami League for “opposing the creation of mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and obstructing the construction of Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar.”

He was also suspended for “violating the party discipline.”

At the same time, a letter was sent to the centre recommending expulsion of Mohammad Ali Sarker from Awami League, said Rajshahi City Awami League general secretary Dablu Sarker.

Dablu Sarker said a meeting of the executive committee of the Rajshahi City Awami League was held on Monday (January 25). It was chaired by City Awami League president and City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.

The meeting unanimously decided to expel District Council chairman Mohammad Ali Sarker from the party. Afterward, an order was issued suspending him from the Awami League membership.

Besides, Dablu Sarker said a letter was sent to the central executive committee of Awami League recommending expulsion of Mohammad Ali Sarker from Awami League permanently.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held on Monday protesting the obstruction of the construction of Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar at its designated place. The meeting was held at the Swarith Dutt Meeting Room of Nagar Bhaban in Rajshahi city on Monday evening. It was chaired by City Awami League president and City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.
