Myanmar assures China of taking back Rohingyas: Yi – National – observerbd.com
Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi has told Bangladesh that Myanmar recently reassured China of taking back Rohingyas who have taken shelter in Bangladesh.
He had a telephonic conversation with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday evening when he conveyed Myanmar’s position over the Rohingya repatriation to Bangladesh, a foreign ministry press release said in Dhaka on Friday.
Wang Yi said China has been maintaining regular communication with Myanmar at various levels over the Rohingya repatriation.
Myanmar assured China of working towards Rohingya repatriation once the Covid-19 situation improves, he said.
Bangladesh, Myanmar and China are planning to hold Foreign Minister-level tripartite talks after Myanmar’s national election in November to begin the repatriation of Rohingyas without any delay.
Before the Foreign Minister-level tripartite talks, senior officials can hold a preparatory meeting on Rohingya repatriation in Dhaka, said the Chinese foreign minister.
He assured Dr Momen that Bangladesh will get priority once any Chinese vaccine is ready for use.
Yi said Bangladesh and China will continue to work together in the post-Covid era for the faster recovery of economies.
He highly appreciated the leadership and success of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in handling the coronavirus situation in Bangladesh.
The Chinese foreign minister assured Bangladesh of continued support from China on Covid-19 front.
He said the projects in Bangladesh with Chinese support will be completed in an expeditious way once the coronavirus situation improves.
About the killing of a Chinese national in Pirojpur, Yi said they have trust in measures taken by the Bangladesh government to try the perpetrators and ensure the security of the Chinese nationals.
Foreign Minister Dr Momen said the trial of the Chinese citizen killing will be completed speedily and two accused have already been arrested.
He urged his Chinese counterpart to take steps so that Bangladeshi students and researchers can renew their expired Chinese visas smoothly.
In reply, the Chinese foreign minister said the Chinese government is yet to take any decision regarding the entry of foreign students to China.
He, however, assured Dr Momen that Bangladesh will get priority once entry permission is given to foreign students.
Dr Momen thanked the Chinese government for taking the step to translate the book, “Amar Dekha Naya Chin (China)”, into Chinese language which was authored by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
