Mannan forproper feasibility study before undertaking projects

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2021 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today stressed the need for conducting feasibility study properly before framing any development project.

“Feasibility study is a must for starting anything from our day to day life to a big project like Padma Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and it is a one of the most important thing in Development Project Performa/Proposal (DPP),” he said.

The Minister said this at a workshop on “Finalisation of draft outline of feasibility study report of development projects” held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Mentioning that the DPP has two sides — technical and financial, he said, “Out of these two, I’m very much concerned about the financial side, since I am here as the people’s representative. I think conducting feasibility study is a must before spending money meant for development projects because these money absolutely belong to people.”

The Planning Minister said the feasibility study usually does not draw too much attention, but the significance of it is very high.

“Conducting feasibility study is absolutely a must do thing,” he added.

Mannan said there are around 1,800 to 1,900 development projects including mega projects and there is a need to look into the financial aspects of these projects strictly and carefully as this money belong to people.

He said his ministry will make a format regarding development projects and all other ministries should follow this format. “But, it’s my suggestion not order.”

The Planning Minister also suggested that the format should be in Bengali adding there could be English format, but the basic form should be in Bengali.

Regarding corruption, Mannan said, “I believe everyone around us avoids corruption, if anyone is found to be personally involved with corruption, we’ll deal with them legally. We’ll build a corruption free Bangladesh.”

Senior Secretary of the Planning Division Md Ashadul Islam was present, among others, at the program.
