JS body for stern actions against Bangabandhu sculpture vandalizing – National – observerbd.com

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Liberation War Affairs Ministry on Sunday urged the authorities concerned to take stern punitive actions against the culprits and masterminds involved in vandalizing Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia.

The JS body came up with the call at its 16th meeting at the parliament complex here with its chairman Shajahan Khan in the chair, an official release said.

Expressing deep concerns, the meeting strongly condemned the attack on the Bangabandhu’s sculpture there and termed the vandalism and also the protests against sculpture construction in Dhaka as ill-motivated.

Besides, the committee recommended that the National Freedom Fighters Council as well as the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs would take special care with supervision to ensure the flawless naming of schools, colleges, roads, bridges and culverts after heroic freedom fighters.

The standing committee also discussed the progress of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry’s activities to settle the cases filed against the property of the Welfare Trust, the recommendations of the first meeting of the sixth sub-committee and the headway of construction of the Independence Pillar (Swadhinata Sthamvo) at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.

Committee members Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, AB Tajul Islam, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Waresat Hossain Belal and Moslem Uddin Ahmed attended the meeting.

Secretaries concerned, heads of various agencies and officials concerned of the ministry and the JS Secretariat were present.
