Ivy worked for women’s welfare: Munnujan

KHULNA, Aug 25, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and Employment
Begum Munnujan Sufian said former Awami League (AL) Women Affairs Secretary
late Ivy Rahman would remain as an iconic figure to the women forever as she
worked for their right, freedom and welfare.

“In the past, the path for entering into politics was not smooth for
women … However, Ivy Rahman came to politics facing hard times and always
worked to uplift women in politics. She did many constructive works so that
they could move forward by establishing themselves,” she said while
addressing at a remembrance meeting on her 16th martyrdom anniversary, at
party office of Khulna City Awami League here on yesterday evening as chief
guest.

She recalled that Ivy Rahman had efficiently organized the Awami League
leaders and workers through her pragmatic leadership when she was alive.

Khulna City and District Awami League organised the discussion meeting
while Khulna City AL President and Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder
Abdul Khaleque presided it.

Senior leader advocate Chishty Sohrab Hossain Shikder, Vice-president of
Khulna district AL Adv. Kazi Badsha Mia, General Secretary of Khulna city AL
MDA Babul Rana, General Secretary of Khulna district AL Adv. Sujit Kumar
Adhikary, addressed the meeting, among others.

Talukder Abdul Khaleque said Ivy Rahman had no self-conceited as she
always sat with the activists of the party in each of the meeting. “It’s
really hard to accept the death of a nice human being,” he said.

Ivy Rahman received grievous injuries during a grisly grenade attack on
an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on August 21 in 2004 and
succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
