DHAKA, Nov 5, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said an integrated master plan for Dhaka City is being formulated by coordinating the master plans of all the agencies concerned.
He revealed the information while speaking at a discussion through videoconferencing from Nagar Bhaban here.
The technical discussion was arranged at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) on the occasion of the World Cities Day.
Speaking as the chief guest, Taposh said various organisations have formulated master plans on their activities but those are project-centric.
“We are not omitting anything. We are going to formulate an integrated master plan for Dhaka City incorporating all of them (master plans of all the organisations),” he said.
The DSCC mayor said once the master plan is implemented, city services could be ensured and a modern Dhaka could be built.
Terming the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit a remarkable initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said: “We will move at the level of a modern city through MRT”.
Chaired by IEB (Dhaka central) chairman Engineer Abul Hossain, the discussion was addressed, among others, by eminent urban planner Prof Nazrul Islam, University Grants Commission (UGC) member Prof Mohammad Alamgir, Awami League science and technology affairs secretary Abdus Sabur and IEB general secretary Engineer Shahadat Hossain.
Prof AKM Saiful Islam of BUET’s Institute of Water and Flood Management and assistant professor Dr Nilopal Adri of its Urban and Regional Planning Department read out keynote papers.
