Extremism to be eradicated like militancy: Taposh

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – Fundamentalism will be eradicated in the
same way that war criminals have been brought to justice and militancy
have been exterminated under the valiant leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

This was stated by Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSSC) and member secretary of the
Bangabandhu Awami Bar Council, at a human chain organized on the
Supreme Court premises today to protest the vandalism of the sculpture
of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Taposh issued a stern warning against the vandalism saying, “They
think they have won by breaking the sculpture. Whenever
anti-constitutional activities have taken place, democracy or the
spirit of the liberation war has been hurt and then we, the lawyers,
have given a strict answer and we are ready to do it again.”

About hardliner Islamist organization Hefazat-e-Islam Chief Junaid
Babunagari, Taposh said, “Under the leadership of the Prime Minister,
we have now established a nest of peace in Bangladesh. We are peace
loving. We are beautifully engaged in building a nation to move the
country forward. So the people of the country will not allow another
‘Bangla Bhai’ to take over the existing peace.”

“Have you forgotten May 5 mayhem, when you thought that if Shapla
Chattar was occupied, Bangladesh would be occupied, he said, adding:
“As long as we are alive under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina no one
will be able to occupy this Bangladesh.”

About opposition of the sculpture, Tapas said, “Be at peace under
the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Otherwise, the slogan that you once
gave ‘Bangladesh will become Afghan’, you will be sent to that
Afghanistan.”

He said that conspiracy against Bangabandhu is not new. “Bangabandhu
means Bangladesh, he is our consciousness and ideal and it won’t be
easy to hold schemes against him for long,” he added.

Supreme Court Bar Association President and Attorney General A M
Amin Uddin said, “We will bring all those who are involved in this
heinous crime under the law…will bring them to justice.”

Bangabandhu Awami Bar Council leader, Bangladesh Bar Council member
Mokhlesur Rahman Badal conducted the human chain.

Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Bangladesh Bar Council member
Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, former Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary
Dr Bashir Ahmed, Dr Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, former Supreme Court
Bar Association Treasurer Nahid Sultana Yuthi, Azharullah Bhuiyan and
a large number of lawyers took part in the human chain.

Senior lawyer Yusuf Hossain Humayun, convener of Bangabandhu Awami
Bar Council and vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, and senior
lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder, joint convener and former vice chairman
of Bangladesh Bar Council, virtually joined the program.
