COVID-19 recovery rate rises, infection declines in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 13, 2020 (BSS) – The recovery rate of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients continued to rise while infection rate declined in recent weeks bringing some relief to common people in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“As on Sunday, 86.67 percent COVID-19 patients out of 11,157 infected have recovered against 17.94 percent infection rate in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The recovery rate continued increasing everyday following improved treatments being provided to the patients at the dedicated corona isolation hospitals amid a falling trend in the daily infection rate during the past couple of weeks in the division.

“The number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 9,670 with the healing of 61 more infected people on Saturday raising the average recovery rate to 86.67 percent across the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 9,670 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,219 of Rangpur, 502 of Panchagarh, 937 of Nilphamari, 647 of Lalmonirhat, 762 of Kurigram, 666 of Thakurgaon, 3,097 of Dinajpur and 840 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 25 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 188 collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur on Saturday raising their total number to 11,157 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 11,157 patients stands at 2,643 in Rangpur, 542 in Panchagarh, 980 in Nilphamari, 801 in Lalmonirhat, 854 in Kurigram, 1,018 in Thakurgaon, 3,227 in Dinajpur and 1,092 Gaibandha districts.

“We have so far tested a total of 62,161 collected samples of Rangpur division till Saturday night, and of them, 11,157 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of over 17.94 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 17.94 percent which is currently 4.83 times less that the recovery rate of 86.67 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 202 in the division as two more deaths were reported from Rangpur and Dinajpur on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 202 fatalities stands at 44 in Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, 20 in Nilphamari, 14 in Kurigram, 20 in Thakurgaon, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The casualty rate among all 11,157 COVID-19 positive cases stands at 1.81 percent in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Among the total 11,157 COVID-19 patients, 91 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,670 patients and 202 deaths while 1,194 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 76,703 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 71,471 released and 5,232 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Talking to BSS, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said improved health services are being provided to COVID-19 patients and inspire people in abiding by the health directives to prevent further spread of the deadly virus.

“The government has so far distributed 20,043 tonnes of rice and Taka 12.32 crore as special assistance among 20.68 lakh jobless and needy families since breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the division where the situation is improving now,” he added.
