Coronavirus: 14,400 infected, 13,044 cured in Rangpur division
RANGPUR, Dec 5, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 14,400 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 13,044 already healed in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues rising in recent weeks.
Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 14,400 as 50 new patients were reported after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Friday with the daily infection rate of 17.73 percent.
Since the beginning, a total of 88,026 collected samples of the division were tested and of them, the 14,400 people were found COVID-19 positive till Friday with an average infection rate of around 16.36 percent.
Meanwhile, with the recovery of 11 more infected people on Friday, the number of recovered patients rose to 13,044 with an average recovery rate of 90.58 percent in the division.
“The average recovery rate is currently about 5.54 times higher than the average infection rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this evening.
The district-wise break up of the 14,400 patients stands at 3,667 in Rangpur, 741 in Panchagarh, 1,244 in Nilphamari, 933 in Lalmonirhat, 973 in Kurigram, 1,390 in Thakurgaon, 4,097 in Dinajpur and 1,355 in Gaibandha districts of the division.
On the other hand, the 13,044 recovered patients include 3,048 of Rangpur, 701 of Panchagarh, 1,176 of Nilphamari, 898 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,196 of Thakurgaon, 3,818 of Dinajpur and 1,279 of Gaibandha districts.
Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 268 with no more deaths reported from anywhere in the division on Friday.
“The district-wise break up of the 268 fatalities stands at 61 in Rangpur, 94 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 23 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.
The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.86 percent in the division.
Among the total 14,400 COVID-19 patients, 69 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 13,044 patients and 268 deaths while 941 remaining in home isolations across the division.
“Since the beginning, a total of 89,335 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 83,617 released and 5,718 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.
Talking to BSS this evening, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the COVID-19 infection rate continues rising in recent weeks in the division.
He especially suggested common people for wearing masks while remaining outside and properly abiding by the health directives to remain safe during the current second wave of COVID-19 spread in the winter season.
