Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, on behalf of their respective forces, pay homage to the members of Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War on the occasion of Armed Forces Day 2020, Saturday, November 21, 2020.



The Armed Forces Day 2020 was observed with due dignity and enthusiasm on Saturday.

In honour of the memory of the members of the Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War, on behalf of the president and the prime minister, their military secretaries laid wreaths on the Shikha Anirban at Dhaka Cantonment in the morning, said a press release issued by the ISPR.

Afterwards, Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat on behalf of their respective forces laid wreaths on the Shikha Anirban.

The chiefs of the three services paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion, reports UNB.

They met the prime minister at Ganabhaban in the morning.

At the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister greeted them on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Jahid Tusher at a press briefing.

She mentioned the glorious role of the country’s Armed Forces in checking the coronavirus pandemic and different natural disasters.

She particularly thanked the chief of army staff and every member of Bangladesh Army for standing beside people by checking the outbreak of coronavirus and raising public awareness about the pandemic.

The prime minister also thanked the chief of naval staff, the chief of air staff, each member of Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force for their humanitarian works, including emergency evacuation of Covid-19 patients during the pandemic.

She said the Awami League government has taken all steps in the last 12 years to build the Bangladesh Armed Forces into a capable force to face the geopolitical and military challenges of the 21st century.

Hasina assured them of continuing all sorts of assistance from the government to develop the Armed Forces.

She said the government has been implementing reconstitution and modernization programs of the three forces in phases in line with the Forces Goal 2030 following the Defence Policy of the greatest Bangali of all time — Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Chiefs of the three services expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the prime minister for developing, making progress and building capacity of the Armed Forces significantly in the last 12 years during the Awami League government’s regime.

PM’s Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Armed Forces Division Principal Staff Officer Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman and PM’s Military Secretary Major General Naquib Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
