ACC appeals against Ishraq’s acquittal in wealth statement case

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed an appeal against a lower court judgement that acquitted BNP leader Engineer Ishraq Hossain in a case lodged for not submitting his wealth statement.

The plea came on the cause list of a single judge High Court Division virtual bench of Justice Md Selim, as 25th matter to be heard.

According to the case documents, the ACC on September 1, 2008, issued notices to Ishraq to submit statements on the wealth belonging to him and people dependent on him.

The ACC sent the notices to their home on September 4, 2008. But the accused didn’t comply with the ACC notice within due time.

ACC assistant director Samsul Alam on August 29, 2010, filed the non-submission case against Ishraq with the capital’s Ramna Police Station.

The anti-graft body filed charge-sheet against him on November 25, 2018, and Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 on January 14, 2020, framed charges in the case.

After holding hearing of the case, the court on November 23, 2020, acquitted Ishraq from the case.
