34th span of Padma Bridge installed – National – observerbd.com
The 5.1km of the Padma Bridge are now visible with the installation of its 34rd span on Sunday morning. The 2A span was installed on the Piers seven and eight at Mawa Point of the bridge at 10:04am, engineer Dewan Md Abdul Quader, executive engineer of Padma Bridge project, confirmed. The span was brought from Kumarbhog Construction Yard on Saturday. Abdul Quader said the span could not be installed on Saturday due to inclement weather. The 35th span will be installed on Piers two and three on October 30 and the 36th span will be installed on November 4, while the Bridge Division Secretary has issued a directive to install all the spans by December 10 next, he added. On October 19, 33rd span of Padma Bridge was placed on the third and the fourth pillars. Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The first span was installed on the Piers 37 and 38 on September 30, 2017. The Padma Bridge is expected to be opened in 2021. MH/TF |
