Delwar Hossain, the main accused in the case for stripping and torturing a woman at Ekhlaspur union in Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district, also forcibly raped the woman twice about a year ago, said a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir, member (Complaint and Inquiry) of the NHRC, who visited the spot on Tuesday along with Anwar Hossain, DIG of the Chittagong Range of Police, held seperate talks with journalists.
Faizul Kabir said the housewife couldn’t disclose the name of the mastermind of criminals due to lack of “safety and security.”
“Delwar went to the house of woman about a year ago and gave immoral proposal. But, she refused his proposal. At that time, Delwar turned very angry and excited. He threatened the woman to employ his accomplices to gangrape her. Being frightened, the woman allowed Delwar to rape her. After a few days, Delwar sent his associate Kalam to the woman’s house at night. Kalam took the woman to a beel by a boat where both the criminals raped her,” said Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir.
The NHRC member asserted that they would file a case against the culprits through the panel lawyers taking the statement of the victim into cognizance.
DIG Anwar Hossain said, “Police have succeeded to know and take action after the matter spread through social media. “We had no idea about the matter. When we knew it, we started working at the field-level giving the matter highest priority,” he said.
He said two seperate cases have been filed in connection with the incident. Six, out of nine accused have been arrested. “If we find the names of anyone else during investigation, we will not hesitate to take legal action against them,” he said.
